  • Gunner's Day, Wednesday 26th May 2021.

    Wellington: A short commemorative service in the Lady Chapel at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul at 1pm on Gunners Day, Wed 26 May, 2021. Principal Chaplain Army, Dave Lacey will lead the proceedings. Followed by a casual get together at the rear bar in The Backbencher pub.

    Bay of Plenty/Coromandel: Casual lunch at the WaihI Beach RSA's "Gunners' View" restaurant for gunners and partners. Meet at 11am-ish, Wed 26th May, in the bar, for lunch at midday. Email Chris Morriss at if interested in attending so lunch tables can be booked.

  • Thank you for inviting me to speak to your 2012 National Council. It is a great pleasure to be speaking to you again this year. I would like to thank your national executive committee and president Don McIver. Don has been a tireless advocate for veterans for the last few years. As Prime Minister I have the privilege of meeting many veterans and hearing your remarkable stories. I know I speak on behalf of all New Zealanders when I thank you for the contribution you have made to our peace and security.

    National is committed to honouring your sacrifice. That is why today I’m delighted to be able to give you an overview of the Government’s response to the Law Commission’s review of the War Pensions Act.

    George McElroy is a Vietnam Vet from 161 Battery, 1971.

    George is now in Totara Hospice, where he is not expected to live long. If anyone who could visit George, that would be appreciated.

  • The team in Christchurch has planned a St Barbara's Day Picnic & BBQ  for Sunday 2 December 12.  The objective is to get as many gunners, families and associates together as possible.

    Died at Wellington Hospital on 8 Sep 2012, at 90 years of age.

  • U30723, Maj Gen Piers Martin REID, formerly of Logistics Support Element, deployed to Vietnam with 161 Bty June 1965, and later Chief of the General Staff, NZ Army.

  • 60610 Bdr Albert Edward (Bert) HANCOCK, 25 Bty, 4 Fd Regt, 2NZEF.
    Bert HANCOCK died at Johnsonville, 3 Oct 2012. Father of Frances and grandfather of Andrew Mulcahy.
    His funeral will take place at Guardian Funeral Home, 4 Moorefield Rd, Johnsonville at 1100hrs Mon 8 Oct.

    Here is a possible opportunity for EVSA & RNZA Association members who have a connection with Vietnam era Bird Dog aircraft.

  • Doug McConachie died at home on Sunday 23 Sep at age 81, surrounded by family.

    He is survived by his wife Hazel, his son and two daughters.

    Doug's funeral was held at Terracehaven Chapel, 697 Main St, Palmerston North, at 1300 hrs Friday 28 Sep 2012.

  • The rise in so-called insider attacks by rogue Afghan security forces has highlighted the perils of joint operations in counter-insurgency. But former US soldier David Donovan, who fought in Vietnam, says lessons learnt long ago have been forgotten.

  • On Saturday 15 September 2012, 18 retired gunners from the RNZA Association were hosted on the gunline during a live firing exercise by 161 Battery, 16 Field Regiment in Waiouru (just off the Carbuncle Track to be a bit more precise).

  • At the 2012 AGM (9-11 November), President Tony McLeod will move that the Constitution and Rules of the RNZA Association be amended. The motion will be seconded by Vice President Mike Dakin.
