He was a gun detachment commander at the crucial battle of Kapyong in 1951 and retained vivid memories of that fierce battle in which a massively outnumbered 2,000 Australian, Canadian, NZ, UK, and American troops successfully fought off a fierce assault by about 20,000 Chinese troops from two Divisions. It was was a key formative moment for 16 Fd Regt. Chris was an active member of the K Force Association for over 70 years, and an executive committee member and Life Member of the Wellington RSA.
For Wellington area gunners, Chris' funeral will be at The Pines, 50 The Esplanade, Houghton Bay, at 1100 AM Wednesday 28 February. The association urges Wellington area gunners to attend. 16 Fd Regt and the wider RNZA will be represented at the funeral by senior serving personnel.
