Greetings Fellow Gunners. It is with great sadness that we record the passing of Brigadier (Rtd) Ray Andrews CBE, on Tuesday 29th March. Brigadier Andrews served as the Colonel Commandant of the Regiment and was a Life Member of the Association.
This morning Danny and Bernie McCort helped celebrate the 100th birthday of WW2 NZ Artillery gunner Sgt Cyril Hart at his Rotorua rest home, and presented Cyril with a certificate of Appreciation and Congratulations from the Col Comdt, RNZA, and the President of The RNZA Association.
Hello fellow Gunners.
The association has been sent a newsletter from the Royal Australian Artillery Association of Western Australia, which is at the link below.
Interesting that they celebrated Gunners day in November, not May.
The 2021 association AGM was held on Saturday 30th OCtober 2021, as a virtual/online meeting using "Zoom". Next year's 2022 AGM/Annual Reunion will be held in Christchurch, on the weekend of 11-13 November 2022.
It is with great sadness that I need to inform you of the passing of Brig (Rtd) Geof Hitchings, CBE. I received the following family Death Notice from Col (Rtd) Rob Hitchings, former CO 16 Fd Regt, this morning:
Dear RNZA Association members.
The RNZAA committee has been monitoring the current COVID-19 levels across NZ in the knowledge that Trentham Camp can only host our AGM weekend if Wellington is at COVID-19 Alert Level 1.
The RNZA Association Q Store webapge has two new products available, RNZA Table Runners, and Artillery ties.
Anyone who is interested in sailing would be fascinated, I’m sure, by RNZA Officer Steve Newman' s harrowing account of survival after the boat he was on sunk in a storm whilst in transit from Fiji to New Zealand in November 2019.
Any members who have served in or are interested in 4th Medium Regiment/Battery's new initiative to record and display their history in the Waikato over the last 100yrs please email your interest to Jack Mills at the address below so he can keep you up to speed on things.
The association AGM/Annual Reunion went ahead as planned and the turnout was commendable given the covid uncertainty leading into October. The success of this year's Trentham Camp location sees us planning a repeat there for 2021.
